Top 18 Most Inspiring Steve Jobs Quotes

steve jobs quotes

Steven Paul Jobs was an American inventor, entrepreneur, and the co-founder of Apple. Born as ‘Abdul Lateef Jandali’ to two University of Wisconsin students in 1955, he was given up for adoption after his birth. He was adopted by Paul and Clara Jobs, a blue-collar couple in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Steve was an intelligent child but often rebelled against his teachers or any form of authority. He also alienated himself from most children his own age. Instead, he befriended engineers in his neighborhood and was fascinated by electronics. His love of building things was greatly inspired by Paul Jobs, whose hobby was crafting furniture and fixed cars.

He met Steve Wozniak when he was in high school and eventually founded Apple together in 1976.  Since then, Apple has revolutionized technology with products such as the iPhone, iPad, and the Macbook.

Steve Jobs was a visionary. He was the brains behind the success of Apple. To say that he was a brilliant leader would be an understatement. Not only did Steve revive a nearly-bankrupt company, he turned Apple into one of the most successful brands ever known. His passion for his work was unparalleled and there is much from him that we can learn to better our own lives.

Here are a few motivational quotes from Steve Jobs that will inspire you to achieve greatness in your life.

These 18 Steve Jobs Quotes will push you towards your dreams

1. “We’re gambling on our vision, and we would rather do that than make “me too” products. Let some other companies do that.”

Never be a copy of someone else. You are better than that. Embrace your uniqueness. Those who lead rarely try to be someone else. Steve Jobs never tried to water his personality down for the sake of temporary gains. He was always true to himself and the world admired him for it. Do not negotiate who you are and people will respect you.

2. “Being the richest man in the cemetery doesn’t matter to me. Going to bed at night saying we’ve done something wonderful… that’s what matters to me.”

Material gains are temporary. Leaving a positive mark on the world is what should really be important to us. Striving towards making the world a better place is what gives meaning to our lives.

3. “I’m convinced that about half of what separates the successful entrepreneurs from the non-successful ones is pure perseverance.”

The path to success is one filled with failures. We must never surrender. Only those who stubbornly refuse to give up achieve their dreams. Steve Jobs was once fired from his own company. Imagine how different the world would be if he had given up then!

4. “Creativity is just connecting things.”

We often think of creativity as mysterious. It is not. Ask any creative person you know and they will say the same thing: it is just connecting what’s in front of all of us. Open your eyes. Be more aware of the world, and the world will begin to inspire you!

5. “I’m the only person I know that’s lost a quarter of a billion dollars in one year…. It’s very character-building.

While most of us would be mortified at a loss of such a scale, Steve Jobs was able to see his failures as learning experiences. This is an absolutely important trait for success. If we let our defeats poison our ambition, we will never succeed. Also, if we fail to learn from our failures, we are likely repeat the same mistakes again. Remember that failing is just another opportunity to shine even brighter!

6. “Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life.”

You should be the biggest priority in your own life. Life is too short to be worrying about other people all the time. Trying to be something you are not for other people is a waste of who you are!

7. “Remembering that you are going to die is the best way I know to avoid the trap of thinking you have something to lose. You are already naked. There is no reason not to follow your heart.”

Memento Mori. Always remember that one day, you too will die. That way you are less likely to spend time chasing after things that mean nothing to you. Your time on this earth is far too precious for that!

8. “Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.”

Reflect on your life. Is this what you really want to be doing? Most times we choose to ignore our heart’s desires because we have been deafened by our own fears. We do not realize that by doing this, we are running away from our own happiness. Follow your heart and your dreams. Though the ride may be bumpy, it will be worth it!

9. “You have to be burning with an idea, or a problem, or a wrong that you want to right. If you’re not passionate enough from the start, you’ll never stick it out.”

If you are not passionate about what you do, you will never be good at it. Passion is not something you develop. Your job will not become your vocation just because you want it to. Think how miserable Steve Jobs would have been if he had pursued a career in law enforcement instead of following his dreams!

10. “Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice.”

You can never please everybody. Someone will always criticize you for your choices. But do their opinions matter? Absolutely not! Steve Jobs was infamous for not caring about what other people thought of him. It was one of the reasons why he became so successful. Although we should never ignore genuine criticisms, we should never doubt ourselves because of other people’s opinions.

11. “You can’t just ask customers what they want and then try to give that to them. By the time you get it built, they’ll want something new.”

This is why you should never pay much attention to the opinion of others. Because when you do listen to other people’s opinions and change yourself, you will realize that none of them care about your effort. They will simply pick out something else they do not like about you and criticize you for it!

12. “Sometimes when you innovate, you make mistakes. It is best to admit them quickly, and get on with improving your other innovations.”

Making mistakes is a part of being human. None of us are infallible. Even a prestigious company like Apple has released numerous devices that turned out to be complete flops. But Steve Jobs never let these slip-ups slow him down. He owned up to them and refocused his attentions. So should you!

It is okay to make mistakes. Failure is one of life’s best teachers. But we should never let our blunders discourage us. We should simply accept the fact that our plans failed and move on to other ventures.

13. “I want to put a ding in the universe.”

Have outlandish dreams. It does not matter whether they come true or not. Just by dreaming big, you move closer to success. Only those who dream can change the world!

14. “Stay hungry. Stay foolish.”

Dreamers are often made fun of for being who they are. But we forget that something as ordinary as a cellphone was thought to be lunacy less than a century ago.

Every invention was once a foolish idea. Don’t demean your vision just because other people cannot understand it!

15. “If you want it, you can fly. You just have to trust you a lot”.

You are your own worst critic. We often underestimate what we can achieve when we put our minds to it. Do not let self-doubt cloud what you can accomplish!

16. “Sometimes life hits you in the head with a brick. Don’t lose faith.”

Tragedy is inevitable in human life. Sometimes we must face circumstances beyond our control. Do not let that make you stop believing in yourself. You are strong enough to overcome any adversity life may throw your way!

17. “Great things in business are never done by one person. They are done by a team of people”

Find others who share your vision and work together. Surround yourself with people you support and who in turn will support you. No human being is an island!

18. “Those who are crazy enough to think they can change the world are the ones who do.”

Never think that your ambition is too big for you. You are selling yourself short! Success comes only to those with the gumption to try and achieve what others would call impossible!

Steve Jobs passed away on October 5, 2011, after battling pancreatic cancer for nearly a decade. And the world still mourns for this loss.

There will never be anyone as uniquely charismatic as Steve Jobs. His life was an inspiration to many. He was a brilliant entrepreneur, a wise leader, and an overall amazing person. Despite facing numerous setbacks, Steve never gave up. He understood that only those who never stopped trying could achieve greatness. And that is something we can all admire and learn from.

May he rest well knowing he will always be remembered as the man in blue jeans and a black turtleneck that changed the world.
